Shiraz Viognier by 90+ Cellars

Wine of the week! An Australian Shiraz Viognier blend by 90+ Cellars (aka my go-to whenever I can find it).

Each one of the 90+ plus varieties I’ve sampled has been delicious and this wine did not disappoint.  Before tonight, I have never heard of the Shiraz Viognier varietal, which is blend of both red and white grapes.  Did anyone else know they could even do that? I was expecting a dry red wine but instead I found the wine to be somewhat sweet and full of fruit, apricots especially. The tannins coat the entire glass and remain throughout but I did not notice the smokiness that the label described. My favorite part besides the smoothness and fruitiness of the taste was the 14% alcohol volume. Usually, I can taste these things but this bottle caught me completely off guard.  Two wine glasses was all it took for me to feel it.

The 90+ Cellars team have a ton of wines (all of which meet the 90+ rating) but this wine in particular is the standout, crowd-pleasing type of wine.  I can’t imagine there is a wine drinker out there that would not want to sample this wine and who could help not falling in love with it.

90+ Cellars Shiraz Viognier sells for about $17 and is well worth the higher price tag.  If you’re feeling guilty about spending the extra money… you can look at it like paying for the extra alcohol volume.
