What are your favorite spots to buy wine? In your local wine shop? Online? A huge wino friend of mine told me that he learned everything he knows from being

I am still wondering how he had money in the “education budget” for this, but that is besides the point, I suupose.  Anyway WTSO is free to join and allows members to buy a high quality wine-of-the-day at lower than market price. My favorite part is that almost all of the wines come with their rating and a brief description about what makes them worth waiting for their arrival at your doorstep.

Some hints for happy wine shopping at WTSO:

  1. Order a few bottles (4 gives you free shipping) because if you fall in love, chances are you are going to need to search for the wine elsewhere and when its gone, its gone.
  2. If you have an email address that you use for online orders, sign-ups, etc., its best to use it for WTSO because the wine deals come fast and furious.
  3. Keep some notes on what purchases you liked and didn’t like and why; this will help you with future wine shopping.

Be sure to check out WinesTilSoldOut out at www.wtso.com and as always let us know what you think!

  1. What I don’t like about WTSO is that they post this “original” price that is completely fictitious. I go to other web sites to compare prices, and no one is anywhere near this “original” price, not even the people who produce the wine. It makes it look like you’re saving a lot of money, when in reality you’re only saving a couple of bucks on each bottle. If you buy enough to get free shipping, then I guess it’s worth it. Otherwise, it’s not. It’s kinda like buying a new car: the price on the sticker is completely meaningless.

  2. I disagree with Timothey Mueller. WTSO’s prices are often substantially lower than the competition. For example, yesterday I purchased four bottles of Adegas Moure Abadia de Cova Albarino 2010 ( a Parker 90) for $12.95 a bottle. The best competing price I could find on the web was $19.99 and WTSO ships for free with no tax added to my state. Since the NYC sales tax is close to 9% this adds to the value.

  3. I’m also a huge fan of WTSO. I do think they exaggerate the original price somewhat, but the actual price of the wine is better than average and the convenience of having it shipped for free if you buy a certain number of bottles is tremendous. I think the ratings are also fairly accurate and helpful. When I have gotten a bad bottle of wine, my money has been refunded with no problem, although I have not had a bad bottle from them in over a year and I’m a frequent purchaser. Highly recommend this site.
